Cricket  Excitement
in the South

The Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) Cricket Competition continues to create excitement both in the North and South of the Island, as members battle for the ultimate championship honour.

In the South, Jade Mountain and Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa went on head to head in a knock out clash, as both Teams aim to proceed to the next game.  Coconut Bay won the toss and started the game facing only eight (8) overs (due to their tardiness).  Despite their disadvantage of two less overs, they were able to score a whopping 64 runs, losing only 4 wickets in 48 balls to defeat their opponent.  Jade Mountain in turn attempted to keep up the pressure but underestimated their rival.  Although having their full 10 overs, they fell short of meeting Cbay’s target of 64 runs and handed the victory over to Coconut Bay.

On the other hand, games in the North of the island were disrupted due to the inclement weather conditions and The Landings and St James’ Club Morgan Bay were unable to play.  These matches are scheduled to take place today, Friday June 14th, 2013 at the Monchy Playing field at 2pm.

Upcoming Matches:

Soufriere Hotwire vs Sandals La Toc – Piaye – 18/6/13 – 4pm

Windjammer Landing vs Rendezvous -Monchy – 19/6/13 – 2pm

Coconut Bay vs winner (St James’ Club & Landings) – Monchy – 19/6/13 – 4pm

Paper Conservation

The average office worker goes through 10,000 sheets of copy and printer paper a year, according to the Environmental Planning Agency.

Examine your office patterns for areas where you can go paperless. Create electronic employee manuals, forms and similar documents, and establish an email list to send customers newsletters and catalogs online.

Work with management to determine which documents in your office can be read or stored electronically. When you must print, use soy-based ink toner cartridges and recycled-content paper. Consider double-sided printing whenever possible to reduce paper use.

Saint Lucia is Number One ‘Again’

Tourism officials on Saint Lucia continue to bask in news of increasing accolades and recognition being heaped on the island and on the many committed and dedicated travel-trade personnel who function as the heart and backbone of the tourism industry.

The latest recognition comes from thousands of US (North American) based travel agents who again have highlighted the outstanding contribution of one of Saint Lucia’s leading tourism representatives -SLTB’s Regional Manager Lorine Charles-St. Jules.

The agents, via TravelAgentCentral.com, have adjudged Charles-St. Jules as the ‘Top Supplier Sales Representative’ for 2013. This is the second consecutive year the decorated and accomplished veteran tourism ambassador has copped the first place prize, edging out Barbados and Jamaica who came in second and third respectively.

In graciously accepting the award, Charles-St. Jules says that although her primary remit is to expand market share for Saint Lucia, “The job requires a genuine love for the product being represented and it doesn’t hurt at all to love people and interacting with them.”

In 2012 Charles-St. Jules’ sterling contribution to the development of tourism and her unwavering commitment to showcase Saint Lucia as a leading tourist destination was acknowledged by the US based Society of Foreign Consuls.  She was the only West Indian honoree among a short and distinguished list of women from around the world, recognized on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Based in the New York metro area, Lorine Charles-St. Jules leads the marketing, public relations and sales drive for the Saint Lucia Tourist Board in the Northeastern and West coast, USA.  In her line of work at the SLTB, Charles-St. Jules has developed deep relationships with trade organizations and travel media representatives across North America, and has served on many industry boards including Area of Westchester Travel Agents, Long Island Travel Association, Caribbean Tourism Organization regional Chapters and Travel Agents of Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Made in Saint Lucia

The St. Lucia Trade and Export Promotion Agency [TEPA] has thrown its support behind the Sport in Black and White Conference and Youth Forum organized by the Sacred Sports Foundation.

The event started on Monday, June 10, and continues through to June 23, 2013. TEPA hosted a special workshop on Wednesday June 12, 2013 under the theme “What Can Sports Offer – An Export Opportunity”. There were influential speeches by Sergio Fedee, Peter Adrian and Hayden Evens to name a few.

Developing the youth of Saint Lucia in their sporting fields was of the utmost importance. Another crucial point of discussion was the management and refining of skilled talents. As it has been alleged that many of Saint Lucia’s outstanding sporting personnel have all been adopted by other regional islands where their talent is groomed and they go onto becoming phenomenal athletes, but with little to no recognition of St. Lucia.

Another feature of the conference was a “MADE IN SAINT LUCIA” tradeshow. Many local manufactures were on displayed with their unique creations and products. This tradeshow served as a testimony that Saint Lucian talent can be exported and utilized in many fashions.
