SLHTA/SLTB Job Fair

On Tuesday, May 13, 2014, the SLHTA hosted a Job Fair at the Bay Gardens Hotel for approximately seventy (70) students who graduated from the Monroe College’s Hospitality Training Programme in 2013.  The Job Fair forms part of a collaborative endeavor between the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) and the Saint Lucia Development Bank (SLDB) to assist          unemployed individuals with opportunities to access employment in the Tourism and Hospitality Sector.

The growing concern to create employment has been an issue for governments from all over the region and Saint Lucia is no exception.  The mission of the Saint Lucia Development Bank is to facilitate           enterprise and sustainable socio-economic development by providing accessible and affordable       financial, technical and advisory services. As such the SLDB found it necessary to partner with Monroe College to provide loans to students to undergo the Hospitality Training Programme.

Human Resource Managers from various Member Hotels attended the event to conduct interviews with graduates. The exercise forms part of a wider initiative by the SLHTA to strengthen attitudinal competencies of job seekers and better align them with the needs of employers.

Ms. Verlin St. Louis who was one of the students participating in the SLHTA/SLDB Job Fair expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, “It has been really challenging getting an interview, I’ve been trying for months and today I can finally speak to the representatives from the different hotels and probably my changes will be greater today”.
