Saint Lucia Shines at CTO’s 2024 Regional Tourism Youth Congress
(Ministry of Tourism) Saint Lucia, September 11, 2024 – The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information is proud to announce Saint Lucia’s participation in the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Regional Tourism Youth Congress, held from September 2 to 6, 2024 in the Grand Cayman Islands.
At 16 years old, Ms. Iara Ernest, a talented student from Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School, stood out among Junior Ministers from 11 other Caribbean destinations, representing Saint Lucia with great distinction.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024 Ms. Ernest delivered an outstanding presentation on the topic “Collaboration Across Cultures“. Her engaging and insightful discussion highlighted the importance of cross-cultural collaboration in shaping a more immersive and inclusive tourism experience. In her delivery Ms Ernest emphasized that “In today’s globalized world, tourism connects people, cultures, and builds meaningful relationships. My Ministry, therefore, commits to establishing an environment of equity and understanding for all, regardless of identity. Showcasing Saint Lucia’s commitment to fostering global understanding and unity through tourism.”
In the second round of the competition, Ms. Ernest proudly showcased “Nature World,” an eco-tourism site in her community of Dennery, as one of Saint Lucia’s hidden gems which could be promoted via social media.
Following her outstanding presentation, President, Katrina Chin of the University of the West Indies, Mona Tourism Society extended an invitation to Ms Ernest to participate as a Presenter at the upcoming forum during Tourism Awareness Week, scheduled to take place on September 26, 2024 in Jamaica.
The Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) Regional Tourism Youth Congress provides a platform for young minds across the Caribbean to share innovative ideas and perspectives on tourism. Ms. Ernest’s contribution not only reflected her personal excellence but also underscored Saint Lucia’s dedication to nurturing future leaders in the tourism sector.
The Ministry extends heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Ernest for her outstanding representation and expresses gratitude to the Caribbean Tourism Organization for organizing such a significant event. To celebrate her achievements, a special assembly was held at the Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, wherein Ministry Officials recognized Ms Ernest for her exceptional performance. The Ministry also acknowledged two students; Ms Jadea Estava and Ms Vincenshia Bridgewater who participated in the National Public Speaking Competition in May 2024, who placed 2nd and 4th, respectively.
The Ministry remains dedicated to fostering and promoting youth involvement in tourism and anticipates future opportunities to highlight their contributions.
