“Sustainable Approaches to Agro processing and Value Chain Development of Root and Tuber Crops in the Caribbean”
On Monday 30 th April, the Cassava Value Chain Development Committee held a meeting at the IICA Conference Room.
Liaison Officer Ms. Donette Ismael attended the meeting on behalf of the SLHTA. Also in attendance at the meeting were representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Bureau of Standards, JIICA Volunteer and Technical Specialist from IICA.
The Committee’s mandate is to assist in the development of Cassava in Saint Lucia. Discussed at the meeting were plans by the Bureau of Standards to host a two day workshop on Food Safety to ensure that processors of the cassava mash are trained and certified. In addition the meeting focused on an upcoming recipe book to be published with only local cassava recipes.
The Committee is seeking assistance from the SLHTA to get twenty-five Cassava recipes incorporating local ingredients. Recipes should be accompanied by a photo of the dish. All authors will be highlighted next to their recipes in the book.
Work Commence on Sandals Fourth Sandals Resort in Saint Lucia
Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Mr. Allen Chastanet has turned the sod for the official commencement of work for the new Sandals Saint Lucia resort, which will be the company’s fourth hotel on the island.
The Prime Minister was joined by Minister with Responsibility for Tourism Dominic Fedee, Minister of Economic Development and Urban Renewal Guy Joseph, Sandals Director of Corporate Services Jeremy Jones and Sandals Saint Lucia Managing Director Winston Anderson.
During the ceremony which took place on Wednesday May 2 nd at the new site, the Prime Minister welcomed the investment which he says will bring significant benefits to Saint Lucia.“The investment today represented 36,000 new guests who will be coming to Saint Lucia. This by itself will represent a 10% increase in the number of arrivals into Saint Lucia. Saint Lucia Welcomes A New Regional Airline
The inaugural flight of InterCaribbean Airways arrived at the George FL Charles Airport, on Thursday, March 22, at 6:55 pm, from the island of Dominica. The flight marks the commencement of a direct service, 3 times a week, between Saint Lucia’s George FL Charles Airport (SLU) and Dominica’s Douglas–Charles Airport (DOM).
Flight JY293 was welcomed by the Minister of Tourism, Information and Broadcasting the Hon. Dominic Fedee, Chairperson of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority Agnes Francis, Airport Manager for George FL Charles Kirby Toussaint and other tourism officials.
