SLHTA and Blue Diamond Resorts to host Women in Tourism Panel Discussion
(CASTRIES, Saint Lucia – Friday, March 8th 2024) – The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) proudly joins the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) today, March 8th 2024. This year’s observance is being held under the theme ‘Invest in women: Accelerate Progress,’ with the United Nations (UN) noting that by investing in women, we can spark change and speed the transition towards a healthier, safer, and more equal world for all.
The economic empowerment of women, the UN says, can be accelerated through the provision of: resources, jobs, time, security and rights. Tourism provides us with an incredible opportunity to achieve these goals. SLHTA President Paul Collymore has fully endorsed this year’s theme and pledged the Association’s commitment to forming strategic partnerships to continue investing in women.
Collymore stated, “As the Association commemorates IWD, we celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in our industry. We applaud your resilience and continuous commitment, which have contributed to Saint Lucia’s status as a leading global destination. Our success is due in large part to the contributions of women, who have played a leading role in the Association since its inception in 1963. They have served at the highest level of the organization with Ione Erlinger Ford, Berthia Parle MBE and Karolin Troubetzkoy all serving as Presidents. In fact, the SLHTA’s longest serving President is none other than Troubetzkoy who transformed the Association in her nine years at the helm. The heart and soul of the SLHTA, Eileen Paul, and hundreds of others have also provided sterling contributions by steering strategic development, transforming business practices, championing environmental matters and philanthropy, and opening up new creative revenue streams. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the SLHTA, I wish all women a happy International Women’s Day.”
As part of its activities to observe IWD 2024, the SLHTA is pleased to partner with Blue Diamond Resorts to host a ‘Women in Tourism’ Panel Discussion on Friday, March 15th 2024 at Royalton, Cap Estate. The panel will include twelve dynamic women leaders from Saint Lucia’s Hospitality and Tourism industry who will dissect this year’s IWD theme. They will share their experiences and challenges, and provide advice on navigating the demanding sector with nearly five hundred other professionals and students.
