SANDALS RESORTS INTERNATIONAL ELIMINATES ALL PLASTIC STRAWS ACROSS CARIBBEAN RESORTS

~The Luxury Included® resort company meets goal of eliminating all plastic straws by November 1~

In September, Sandals Resorts International announced that all 19 Sandals® Resorts and Beaches® Resorts across seven Caribbean islands – including Jamaica, the Bahamas, St. Lucia, Antigua, Grenada, Barbados and Turks & Caicos – would eliminate the 21,490,800 single-use plastic straws and stirrers used across the resorts each year by November 1, 2018. Well, that promise has officially been fulfilled, because all plastic straws across all Sandals and Beaches Resorts have been eliminated as of today! Eco-friendly paper straws will be available upon request.

Through a recent partnership with Oceanic Global, a non-profit focused on providing solutions to issues impacting our oceans, Sandals Resorts International is working to determine a roadmap for the elimination of other single-use plastic across its resorts. Following this exciting milestone underscoring the brand’s commitment to reducing plastic waste in the Caribbean region, Sandals will explore opportunities to eliminate other plastic across its resorts by September 2019. The company has already made headway with the elimination of plastic laundry bags and plastic bags throughout gift shops.

Sandals Resorts International has long held environmental sustainability as part of its core mission, earning its place as the only hotel chain in the world to have all of its resorts certified by the EarthCheck benchmarking and certification program, with nine resorts currently holding Master Certification.
