PAPER – Every day, office workers generate about two pounds of paper waste, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Every year, the typical office worker uses 10,000 sheets of copy and printer paper. Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to cut back on paper use. Put employee manuals, forms and similar documents online. Set your printer and copier to print on both sides of a page. Buy recycled, chlorine-free paper. Share printed document copies, rather than providing one for every person. Use plain paper in the fax machine, so that it can be recycled.

Development of a Tourism Product in Vieux Fort

As part of the strategy to enhance the competitiveness of the Tourism Industry the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries engaged the community of Vieux Fort in a consultation to determine the viability of a tourism product in that area.  The Competitiveness Benchmarking Report of 2013 conducted by the International Financial Corporation (IFC) highlighted the relevance of “Nature and Eco-tourism, Leisure and Entertainment Tourism, Sport Tourism, and Culture Tourism” to the local product offering.  In this regard, the community of Vieux Fort has the resources that can be harnessed into a unique tourism product.
The consultation was held on March 26, 2014 at the National Skills Development Centre in Vieux Fort.  It included presentations from the Ministry of Economic Affairs on the “Relevance of the Competitiveness Benchmarking to the Vieux Fort Community”, Strategic Opportunities for Tourism in Vieux Fort by the Saint Lucia Tourism Development Program and the Vieux-Fort Tourism Development Group will present on the Development Vision for Vieux Fort.
This consultation will complement the Ministry’s overall policy to engender a sense of ownership and increase the participation of local communities in the advancement of the industry.

Coconut Bay Make Repairs to the
St. Jude Pre-School

A contingent of workmen from the Engineering Department of Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa have made critical repairs and general upgrade works to the St. Jude Pre School in Vieux-Fort. This project was undertaken as part of the Hotel’s ongoing community outreach and support efforts and in response to an identified need.
This philanthropic gesture by Coconut Bay in the form of repair works amounted to a significant upgrade of the school’s infrastructure and the quality of services it now offers its clientele. During the two day period, the workmen removed, replaced and retiled a rotted sink cupboard and surface, repainted all cupboards and walls in school kitchen and also replaced a defective toilet unit within the bathroom.
School Administrator Ms. Herbecia Jn Pierre expressed elation and gratitude for the assistance granted to the institution by Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa. She explained that some of the works undertaken were as a result of the combined impact of Hurricane Tomas and the more recent Christmas Eve Trough. Ms. Jn Pierre is convinced that Coconut Bay’s assistance is “an answer to prayers” for help. The school’s Administrator noted: “through this kind corporate gesture, Coconut Bay has improved the learning experience for current and future groups of our nation’s children. We are indeed extremely thankful on their behalf.”
