The Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association would like to Congratulate our members on their outstanding performance on TripAdvisor. Spice of India and Orlando’s have been ranked the top two restaurants in Saint Lucia out of 138.
Spice of India, a well established restaurant in the Baywalk Mall has reeled in almost 350 comments and 300 of those rated it as EXCELLENT! Augusta Alfred stated “I must say the ambience is wonderful and the restaurant really blocks out the noise from the outside being in a mall and all. I benefited from the Chef Taster Menu. The meal was very filling, packed some wonderful flavours and diverse textures. I will definitely be going back there again and again.”
Orlando’s, which is owned by executive star chef, Orlando Satchell, recently opened in Soufriere has 28 comments on TripAdvisor, but don’t frown because all of them are rated as EXCELLENT! Edward from the United Kingdom says “We were recommended to come here and found an oasis of excellently cooked and presented Caribbean food with inventive and interesting flavours. Great waitress with a lovely manner and smile and Orlando came and spoke to us several times. The tasters were wonderful.” Visit Orlando Satchell facebook page for more information.

Alec Sanguinetti Retires after 52 Years of Dedicated Service

On Thursday, January 31, 2013 a farewell party was hosted to say a fond farewell to Alec Sanguinetti, after the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) announced that Sanguinetti was retiring as Director General and CEO after 19 years in executive positions with the organization and 52 years as one of the tourism industry’s top airline and hotel executives. Sanguinetti was only the second CEO for CHTA in the association’s 50-year history.  He originally joined CHTA as Deputy Director General in 1993 working closely with John Bell, the association’s first CEO.  He was named Director General and CEO in 2003.

“October 1, 2012 marked 52 years for me in the travel and tourism industry and the last 19 years with CHTA have been among the most enjoyable,” said Sanguinetti. “I have had the opportunity in working with CHTA to be involved with the Caribbean hotel and tourism industry which is a far more encompassing and broader playing field than working with any single entity such as an airline or destination,” he said, adding: “I had the opportunity to meet and work with wonderful and dedicated individuals from whom I have learned such a great deal.”

“We are indebted to Alec Sanguinetti for his tireless dedication to the CHTA and tourism in the Caribbean,” said Richard Doumeng, President of CHTA.  “He has led our organization through some very difficult times and enabled us to remain a strong and viable force in Caribbean tourism and he has done it with empathy, wit, style and grace,” Doumeng said. “We wish Alec and his amazing wife, Flavia, all the best and we know that they will remain part of our CHTA lives.”

Sandals Foundation and a Dentist Visit Local Primary School

After a Christmas holiday filled with sweets and fruit cake, the students of the Marchand Combined School returned to their classrooms for a lesson in oral hygiene.

Sandals Grande St. Lucian guests visiting from England, Dr. Neil Stephen – a dentist – and his wife Sheila took charge of the morning’s health lesson recently at the inner-city primary school as a way of giving back to the children in the Castries community of St. Lucia through the Sandals Foundation. Neil, whose knowledge of island happenings is razor-sharp, explained: “We don’t want to just come to St. Lucia to vacation. We care for St. Lucia and its people. We have made so many friends here over the years and not only have we fallen in love with the island, but with the people as well.”

Public Relations Manager of Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Rhonda Giraudy noted that, “This is part of ongoing work which we are doing at the school: renovating the Library, repainting the kitchen and lunch area, and toys for the school at Christmas time are all part of adding value to the children’s education,” Giraudy explained.

For the Sandals Foundation it has been yet another opportunity to add value to the education of young children, one of the pillars upon which the non-profit organization was conceived.  Marchand Combined School is an affiliated Sandals Foundation school among 26 adopted schools in the Caribbean islands of St. Lucia, Antigua, the Turks and Caicos Islands, Jamaica and the Bahamas.
