This is by no means an effortless task yielding from the exceptional work from our Saint Lucia Tourist Board, Destination Management Companies and all Accommodation Establishments. This further cements our positions in the marketplace as a choice destination.

St. Lucia Recognizes UK Travel Agents and Media Partners

The stellar efforts of scores of travel partners and the role of the media in ensuring that Saint Lucia remains ‘top of mind’ in the British marketplace has again been underscored and recognized by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board. The recognition came as part of the 20th Industry Awards Ceremony, held in conjunction with observances commemorating March as ‘Saint Lucia Month’ over in the UK. No other tourism authority in the United Kingdom has a longer running industry awards programme.

Over 13 awards in varying categories were given out including Best Saint Lucia Travel Writer 2012, Best Website Featuring Saint Lucia 2012, Tour Operator with the Best Representation of Saint Lucia in their Brochure 2012 and Tour Operator with the largest growth in key segments such as weddings, family holidays and group travel.

“Saint Lucia has been our top selling Eastern Caribbean Island for several years and this is reflective of the continued good work that the Tourist Board does, together with the strong relationships that we have with our Saint Lucian hoteliers. We are confident that with the tourist board’s new initiatives for “Simply Beautiful” we will continue to see growth to this destination following our joint plans for marketing, training and familiarization trips,” says Lesley Rollo – Managing Director of Hayes & Jarvis and Thomson Tailormade.

Tourism Minister Lorne Theophilus who participated in the award ceremony, lauded the efforts of the UK based travel partners, saying that their dedication and hard work had resulted in well over 75,000 visitors from that market gracing Saint Lucia’s shores. “Your unwavering commitment to our destination in 2012 allowed us to record a 4% increase in UK arrivals over 2011 which represented 25% of total arrivals for Saint Lucia,” said Theophilus.

Bay Gardens Becomes Home to Top UK Fashion Designer

Enthusiast’s country-wide recently gathered for Saint Lucia’s Caribbean Collections Fashion Week. Among the prestigious list of Fashion Designer’s displaying their collections was none other than London’s very own Romero Bryan, known for having dressed such celebrities as Alek Wek, Cameron Diaz and Kelly Rowland.

After a memorable accommodation experience at last year’s Fashion Week, Romero was adamant about staying with Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa for his second time around. “I love the views, the beach and the warm and friendly customer service,” Said Romero “I get a whole new feeling here. It’s lovely. It makes me feel at home.”

Since his initial visit in 2012, Romero has grown to become a part of the Bay Gardens family, “We love having Romero stay with us. I believe he is easily one of the top five most influential black men in the UK. With his energy and his drive, he is going to go to big places.” said Senator Berthia Parle, General Manager of the Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa, “Romero has become, not just a returning guest, but also a great life-long friend.”

When asked about his plans to return to Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa next year, Romero quickly interjected, “Next year? I’m already thinking about returning for Jazz. I want to come for vacation.”

Ministry of Tourism Hosts Education and Public Awareness Competition

As part of its Tourism Awareness mandate, The Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries is once again embarking on its tourism awareness and education initiatives, the aim of which is to provide students with opportunities for expressing their overall views and opinions on Saint Lucia’s vital tourism industry. The following competitions allow for an understanding of the industry on various levels. The Ministry has therefore extended an invitation to all schools to participate, depending on the appropriate criteria.

National Tourism Public Speaking Competition, scheduled for June 19, 2013. The main aim of the competition is to provide a platform where students are able to clearly articulate their personal opinions on various tourism related topics as well as provide innovative and creative ideas on the way forward for the industry. The winner of the competition serves in the capacity of Junior Minister for Tourism 2013-2014 and will ultimately represent Saint Lucia at the 2013 Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Youth Congress.

2013 Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Foundation Children’s Environmental Poster Competition. The competition is intended to promote and stimulate environmental awareness among students and effectively educate younger generations on the importance of environmental protection.

2013 Yachting Essay and Poster Competition. This latest initiative of the Ministry of Tourism is geared towards promoting an understanding of the Yachting Industry’s contribution to Saint Lucia’s tourism industry.

The Ministry would like to impress upon the various educational institutions the importance of capitalizing on opportunities such as these. Notwithstanding the fact that there are attractive prizes to be won by participating students and schools, initiatives such as these promote independent thinking, creativity and a sense of achievement.
