Strengthening Security in Rodney Bay

(Castries, Saint Lucia – February 27th 2025)- With safety and security playing a critical role in the success of Saint Lucia’s tourism industry, the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) and private sector partners welcome proactive steps by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) to engage key stakeholders in meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, senior representatives from the RSLPF, SLHTA, Chamber of Commerce, Manufacturers’ Association, Rodney Bay Association, and the Vacation Rentals Association convened for a high-level meeting to address pressing security concerns impacting the business community and the tourism sector.

Recognizing the urgent need for coordinated action, discussions focused on issues raised by businesses operating in Rodney Bay and its environs, including:

  • Increased police presence and community patrols
  • Measures to address loitering and harassment
  • The reopening and operational efficiency of the Rodney Bay Police Station
  • Traffic management strategies
  • Improved street lighting and maintenance of public spaces
  • Noise pollution control measures
  • Addressing manpower and resource constraints to better serve the community

Crimes affecting visitors not only pose a risk to the island’s reputation but also have far-reaching consequences for businesses and livelihoods. Local business owners and operators are bearing the brunt of these challenges, facing financial losses, declining visitor satisfaction, and operational difficulties.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both law enforcement and the private sector to work hand-in-hand in developing sustainable solutions that enhance safety, protect investment, support youth development programmes and strengthen Saint Lucia’s standing as a premier travel destination.

This collaborative approach reflects the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring that Saint Lucia remains a safe and welcoming environment for residents, visitors and investors alike.

Moving forward, a joint working group will oversee the implementation of key action points, ensuring tangible progress in addressing security challenges.
