SLHTA mourns passing of former President Gregory Glace MBE

(Castries, Saint Lucia – Monday, March 31st 2025)- The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) mourns the passing of Gregory Glace MBE, whose vision and contributions were instrumental in shaping Saint Lucia’s tourism landscape.

Glace was a prominent businessman who founded Glace Supermarket & Wholesale in 1977. In 1981, he opened the 20-unit Islander Holiday Apartments Hotel in Rodney Bay, a remarkable achievement built in just eleven months. This was especially significant at a time when only a handful of Saint Lucians were involved in hotel ownership within the tourism industry. He served as President of the SLHTA from 1981 to 1982, where he played a key role in advancing the sector.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to tourism, Glace was awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1995.

SLHTA President Erwin Louisy stated, “Mr. Glace is the definition of a trailblazer and someone we should all be immensely proud of. Known for his pioneering spirit and dedication to enhancing the tourism landscape, he returned home to Saint Lucia after years abroad with a bold vision. As the owner of the Islander he set out to create a welcoming accommodation experience that blended first-class service with authentic Saint Lucian hospitality. He was a strong advocate for Saint Lucians getting involved in the tourism industry, mentoring and encouraging locals to pursue opportunities in ownership and investment. May he rest in peace.”

The Board, Management and Staff of the SLHTA extends condolences to the family, friends and tourism industry partners on the passing of a remarkable son of the soil.
