Remembering John Bell, a pioneer in Caribbean hospitality

The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late John Bell, a pioneering figure in Caribbean hospitality.

Bell’s illustrious career spanned many decades, and in 1974 he became the first Executive Director of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA). He was the driving force behind many significant events and conferences, including Caribbean Travel Marketplace, Taste of the Caribbean, the Leadership Conference for national hotel association executives, the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHRIS), the Caribbean Hotel Industry Conference, the Caribbean Gold Book and the Caribbean Alliance for Sustainable Tourism, the region’s pioneering environmental organization.

Immediate Past President of the SLHTA and former CHTA President, Karolin Troubetzkoy, stated: “John Bell was a true pioneer in Caribbean hospitality and tourism. His visionary leadership and relentless dedication transformed the CHTA into the region’s premier tourism organization, significantly elevating the role of tourism in our economies. John’s legacy will continue to inspire and guide us. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him and work alongside him.”

In recognition of his immense contributions, Bell was honored with the CHRIS Lifetime Award in 2022.

The SLHTA stands in solidarity with those who mourn his loss.

May he rest in peace.
