Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa Completes Phase Two Renovations at the ABC Fun House Early Learning Centre
Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa is pleased to announce the completion of Phase Two of its four-year commitment to the ABC Fun House Early Learning Centre, further strengthening the resort’s investment in Saint Lucia’s youngest learners.
Through the resort’s CocoLand Cares initiative and under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Gary “Butch” Hendrickson, Coconut Bay formally adopted the ABC Fun House in March 2024. Phase One, unveiled in September 2024, introduced completely renovated facilities in the 2-year-old learning areas that have already brought meaningful benefits to students and teachers.
Building on that success, Phase Two is now complete in time for the new school year, delivering a wide range of improvements to classrooms, common areas, and the school grounds. The three- and four-year-old classrooms now feature new laminate flooring, updated furniture, and fresh paint. Bathroom facilities were upgraded with raised mirrors, a full-length mirror, and touch-up painting. In the kitchen, enhancements included new flooring, a pantry for grocery storage, additional cabinetry, and a chest freezer. A NutriBullet was also provided to support proper nutrition, giving students the opportunity to enjoy weekly smoothie-making sessions with local fruits they bring from home. Exterior work included a new roof, resurfaced non-skid floors, a repaired entrance ramp, and re-tiled patio floors. The playground now includes two basketball hoops and a fleet of five ride-on toys. Once again, the dedicated staff from Coconut Bay and Serenity at Coconut Bay volunteered their time and energy to assist with renovations, painting, furniture installation, and landscaping.
Phase Two also focuses on educational resources. Coconut Bay funded a new curriculum along with learning materials to strengthen instruction and student engagement. To integrate new methodology and technology into the classroom, teachers received new laptops and a 55-inch smart screen with the latest interactive learning capabilities. Additional resources now include a light table with accessories and a sand and water table, both designed to encourage multi-sensory play and social development.
The investment in Phase Two totaled EC $225,000, following the EC $250,000 dedicated to Phase One. That first phase included a full remodel of the two-year-old classroom, new bathrooms, modern flooring, new kitchen appliances, technology for teachers and students, a new playground, and curriculum support. Coconut Bay’s pledge continues with financial and infrastructural assistance, as well as ongoing professional development for ABC Fun House staff, including funding for staff certifications and training in early childhood education.
The adoption of ABC Fun House reflects Coconut Bay’s dedication to investing in education and community development, giving Saint Lucia’s children the tools and environment they need to thrive. “Our CocoLand Cares initiative is about creating lasting impact,” said Mr. Hendrickson. “We know that the first years of a child’s life are the most important for their growth and development, and ABC Fun House is where those foundations are being built.”
Gemma Edwin, Finance Manager at Coconut Bay shared her perspective, “As the chair of this project, I’ve had the privilege of seeing firsthand how much dedication and heart has gone into every step of this renovation. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the care we put into every detail gives every child the chance to grow, and dream in a nurturing environment.”
ABC Fun House Director Elsa Joyeux expressed gratitude for the continued support. “Phase Two has given our students and teachers more resources and an improved environment to learn and grow. These enhancements make a real difference in our daily work with the children, and we are deeply appreciative of Coconut Bay’s commitment. This investment is a gift we will treasure, paving the way for a brighter future for every child. We cannot thank the Coconut Bay team enough for answering the call for help and support when we needed it most.”
