CHTA Education Foundation announces new Scholarship Initiatives

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (September 27, 2024) – On this World Tourism Day, the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Education Foundation (CHTAEF) proudly unveils two vital scholarship initiatives designed to bolster sustainable and resilient practices within the Caribbean tourism industry.

The Tourism Resilience Scholarship Fund, made possible through a generous donation from Saint Lucia’s Jade Mountain Resort, is designed to support Caribbean hospitality professionals in their pursuit of advanced training in resilience building, sustainable tourism, and destination stewardship. The CHTAEF is proud to partner with George Washington University to offer courses that equip professionals with critical skills needed in today’s challenging tourism landscape.

Additionally, the CHTAEF is delighted to introduce the Marine Health Scholarship Program, made possible through donations by leading scuba tour operators DreamWeaver, DiVentures, and Caradonna. This program is dedicated to fostering a new generation of marine professionals who are passionate about preserving and enhancing the Caribbean’s marine environment. The contributions recognize the critical role of healthy marine ecosystems in maintaining a vibrant tourism industry. This scholarship supports careers in dive instruction, reef life renewal, marine biology, and coral nursery management, all crucial for sustaining the Caribbean’s renowned marine biodiversity.

Karolin Troubetzkoy, Chair of the CHTAEF, shared her enthusiasm: “We are immensely proud to launch these scholarships on World Tourism Day. They reflect our commitment to advancing sustainable tourism and resilience within the Caribbean. Special thanks to Jade Mountain for supporting the Tourism Resilience Scholarship and to DreamWeaver, DiVentures, and Caradonna for their crucial contributions to the Marine Health Scholarship. These initiatives are essential for preparing our professionals for future challenges and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our tourism industry.”

These scholarships underscore the CHTAEF’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and professional development within the Caribbean tourism industry, thus ensuring its sustainability and resilience for generations to come.
