CHOCOLATE/COCOA RECIPE COMPETITION

CHOCOLATE/COCOA RECIPE COMPETITION AS PART OF CHOCOLATE HERITAGE MONTH

Every year, Saint Lucia celebrates Chocolate Heritage Month in August and in observation of Chocolate Heritage Month 2015, the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries has collaborated with the Saint Lucia Hotel & Tourism Association (SLHTA) in an initiative geared towards increasing the awareness of the inter-sectorial linkages between agriculture and tourism and the varied uses of locally grown bean.

Maintaining a strong competitive advantage is vital, especially in the tourism industry as countries throughout the region have used the age old mantra of “sun sea and sand” to market their individual destinations. Identifying the uniqueness and authentic elements of Saint Lucia’s tourism product is what distinguishes it as one of the premier holiday destinations in the Caribbean

The initiative includes a Chocolate/Cocoa Recipe Competition where interested persons are invited to submit creative recipes using chocolate as the main ingredient. The runners up for each of the four categories (appetizer, entrée, dessert, and beverage) will also be given the opportunity to compete in a culinary cook-off at the annual Rhythm & Spice Festival, scheduled for November 1, 2015.

The Ministry of Tourism and the SLHTA are currently having ongoing discussions on the second component of the initiative which will include a display of cocoa and its by-products at the Hewanorra and G.F.L Charles airports.

The registration forms and guidelines for the recipe competition can be obtained from the home page of the SLHTA’s Website (www.slhta.com) or the Ministry of Tourism, Heritage and Creative Industries, 3rd Fl, Sir Stanislas James Building, Waterfront.

All recipes should be sent to chocolateheritage2015@gmail.com.
