BAY GARDENS RESORTS LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE WEDDING & HONEYMOON GIFT REGISTRY

Bay Gardens Resorts launched the new feature on their website this week. The gift and wedding registry will allow friends and family members of wedding and honeymoon couples staying at Bay Gardens Resorts to conveniently select fitting gift options for them. The options range from spa treatments to private cooking classes, dinners and more from all three of the Bay Gardens Resorts properties. With a few clicks, the gift(s) can be purchased and reserved in advance of the couples’ arrival.

“It’s often the case with destination weddings that not every friend or family member can make the journey to share the moment with the bride and groom. Our wedding registry will at least allow them to show a bit of love with a gift that will truly enhance the wedding/honeymoon experience for the wedding couple” commented Lavelle DuBoulay, Wedding/Events Coordinator for Bay Gardens Beach Resort & Spa.

Wedding/Events Coordinator for the Bay Gardens Hotel and Bay Gardens Inn, Marina Aldonza was eager to stress the point that this registry is open to the general public, particularly St. Lucians. “This new feature also holds true for our local couples who get married and spend their honeymoon at any of our properties.”

The new registry will be followed up by a general vacation gift registry for other travelers who are celebrating special occasions including anniversaries or birthdays. The company seeks to continue introducing convenient innovations that add value to their guests’ holiday experience.

Customer Service Excellence

The Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association (SLHTA) will facilitate a customer service workshop, specifically tailored for customer services managers, supervisors, team leaders and key staff and delivered by professional trainer Mr. Noorani Azeez, SLHTA’s Executive Vice President.

The aim is to ensure participants have the opportunity to learn how customers think and the key steps required to increase customer satisfaction – both face to face and over the phone. In addition delegates will learn new techniques to handle stressful customer service experiences and environments.

The day will also ensure participants have an opportunity to discuss and share their motivational needs, job de-motivators and to give delegates the tools and techniques to help maintain motivation within a customer service role.

In addition they will learn new skills techniques to handle work stress and inject some new ideas to put the smile back into their working and personal lives.
Registration is now closed for this workshop.

Golden Jubilee Week of Activities
“Together for a better Saint Lucia”

The SLHTA Golden Jubilee Week ended with a vibrant and invigorating panel discussion on several key areas affecting the efficiency of Tourism in Saint Lucia.
On Monday June 16th 2014, the Association started its celebration with a Grande Golden Jubilee Dinner at Sandals Grande which was attended by the Honorable Prime Minister Kenny D. Anthony and other delegates as well Members of SLHTA. Dr. Didacus Jules was the feature speaker for the evening and addressed the gathering.
Wednesday June 18th 2014 saw the unfolding of the Annual General Meeting at9:00am with a closed session for members only, followed by the “Linkages in Tourism Sector Tradeshow”, with over 40 participating members.
At the panel discussion, Dr. Adrian Augier spoke on “attracting and maintaining a productive workforce”, highlighting the fact that unemployment remains high even when the economy is growing at rates in excess of 5%.  He went further to recommend that there should be a review and radical reform of the education system.

A “summary of the OECS Tourism Policy” was another major topic of discussion which was presented by former Executive Vice President of the SLHTA, Mr. Rodinald Soomer.  He mentioned areas in which action is required to improve the region’s tourism competitiveness, including Investment and Product Development, Community Participation, Sector Linkages and Addressing crime that involves visitors among others.

Mr. Bishnu Tulsie, Richard Peterkin and Nigel Mitchel all spoke on issues such as Environment, Taxation and Linkages respectively.

The SLHTA expresses gratitude to all members who participated in the Association 50th Annual General Meeting and attended the Golden Jubilee Dinner.

UK Family partners with Bay Gardens Resorts to donate to local school

Bay Gardens Resorts partnered with one of their longstanding repeat guests and his family to make a donation to the Gros Islet Preschool this week.

Mr. Gordon and nearly 30 of his family members, visited the Bay Gardens Beach Resort again in March 2014 for a grand 70th birthday celebration. A true philanthropist at heart, Mr. Gordon made a special request to his family members – no gifts. In lieu of the gifts, he requested that they make monetary contributions which he would use to donate to a school in St. Lucia. His family obliged and nearly £5000 was raised toward that goal. The funds were entrusted to the management team of the Bay Gardens Beach Resort. The newly constructed Gros Islet Preschool was selected after a site visit by the management team.

On June 16, senior management of the resort visited the school to make the donation of a number of practical items including, a much needed washing machine, microwave, stationery, laundry supplies, utensils and much more. The donation was made to a full group of smiling students and caregivers from the school.

Senator Berthia Parle (General Manager of the Bay Gardens BeachResort) echoed the sentiment of the Gordon family and Bay Gardens Resorts when she stressed on the importance of supporting our youth, particularly the youngest and most vulnerable. Senator Parle also promised the continued support of Bay Gardens Resorts to the Gros Islet Preschool moving forward.

The Gros Islet Preschool is the second school to be adopted by Bay Gardens Resorts. The first is the Monchy R.C. Primary school, which has been under the care of the resort chain for nearly two years.

Digicel Business Helps Sandals cut communication costs by 44%

Sandals Resorts International (SRI) reported a 44 per cent decrease in its communication costs just one year after implementing a Pan-Caribbean closed-user group (CUG) solution from Digicel Business.

The communication solution enables unlimited calling on the Digicel network between the company’s employees across its fifteen locations throughout the Caribbean. Having partners and co-workers across the Caribbean no longer means expensive phone bills for your business. With a Closed User Group from Digicel Business Sandals Resorts International has enabled groups of colleagues to make unlimited calls to each other- at a much reduced monthly rate.

At Sandals, communication is a critical part of what we do,” said Wayne Cummings, SRI director of business administration and processes. “Therefore, we have to ensure that we have the most efficient solutions in place to keep the lines of communication open in our company-the exclusive level of service we are able to provide to our customers is dependent on this.”

Flexibility is the name of the game. Your Tourism business has the option of incorporating pre-paid, postpaid, mobile and fixed wireless broadband into a CUG for your business. Here’s some examples of typical CUG’s:

  •         Multiple users can make free calls only to a single number, ideal if your business has a dispatcher with multiple drivers or a controller who communicates with workers in the field.
  •         An assigned group of suppliers, employees and customers can make unlimited calls to each other. It’s great for connecting employees to each other and to the suppliers and partners they speak to most.
  •         You can also set it up so that one phone number can have both postpaid and prepaid accounts, so work and personal and work calls.
  •         You can even set a credit limit for employees with postpaid accounts and allow unlimited calls to coworkers.

There is also the ability to set up a CUG with members spanning any of Digicel’s territories. Digicel Group operates in 31 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific, while Sandals has 15 resorts across Jamaica, Antigua, Saint Lucia, The Bahamas, Barbados and Grenada.

The Creation of the SLHTA/SLDB

Factoring Fund

The SLHTA Secretariat wishes to advise of initial discussions between the Saint Lucia Development Bank (SLDB) and Representative for Boutique Hotels Mr. Sanovnik Destang and our Executive Vice President Noorani Azeez, towards the creation of a factoring fund which would essentially allow for participating farmers to access settlement of bills within 3-5 working days for produce supplied to hotels participating under the project.  While we are mindful of the shortcomings of similar initiatives in the past, the SLHTA believes that the pilot stage will allow for us to identify the potential challenges and address them before more large scale expansion of the Factoring Fund.  The industry is mindful of the challenges experienced by farmers seeking greater cash flows to reinvest in their enterprises and hope that this initiative will address some of these concerns over the short term.

WTO told OECS economic recovery continues to be slow

Six years after the onset of the global economic crisis, there is evidence that the economies of the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is showing signs of rebound, a senior Grenada diplomat has said.

Grenada’s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO), TO, Dr. Patrick Antoine, addressing the Third Trade Policy (TPR) on behalf of the OECS member countries, said however, the outlook still remains uncertain and the threats of economic reversal and downside risks remains strong…Read More
