SLHTA mourns the loss of Nick Troubetzkoy

(Castries, Saint Lucia – November 28th 2024)- The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) mourns the loss of Nick Troubetzkoy SLC, SLMH, a tourism giant whose contributions transformed Saint Lucia’s hospitality landscape.

Troubetzkoy was a Russian-Canadian architect born on the west coast of British Columbia. After completing his studies at the University of British Columbia, he accepted an opportunity to design vacation villas in Saint Lucia in the 70s.

What was initially a temporary assignment turned into a lifelong connection to the island. His passion for Saint Lucia and its people inspired him to remain and make the island his home, where he devoted his career to blending his architectural vision with the island’s natural beauty, most notably through his iconic work at Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain.

In 2023 he was awarded the Saint Lucia Cross, the country’s highest honour, for his distinguished service in the field of tourism and community development.

Chief Executive Officer of the SLHTA, Noorani Azeez, said: “Nick Troubetzkoy is a trailblazer in every sense of the word. His visionary approach to architecture transformed the way our visitors experience Saint Lucia, designing spaces that blend seamlessly with nature and highlight the country’s unique beauty. His impact went way beyond hospitality—he was deeply committed to the community of Soufrière, supporting youth development, sports, and other initiatives that enriched the lives of many. He was a dedicated member of the SLHTA, offering invaluable support to the Association through his companies, particularly in the areas of environmental sustainability, community outreach, marketing and technology.  We owe him a debt of gratitude and will miss his invaluable insights and unwavering passion. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and Staff of the SLHTA, I extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife, Karolin Troubetzkoy and family, as well as to the teams at Anse Chastanet and Jade Mountain Resorts.”
