The Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) has for 50 years undergone consistent growth, which is a direct result of our longstanding commitment to make a positive impact on Saint Lucia. This page is dedicated to the women and men who have presided at the helm of this movement over the years, and have made tremendous contributions to both the Association and by extension, Saint Lucia’s now thriving Tourism Industry.
Initially referred to as the ‘St. Lucia Hotel Association’, the group was established on the 22nd of November, 1963. The first ever president, Mr. Leonard Headley said that at the time of inception, representatives from about seven hoteliers had gotten together and were in deep discussion when a call was received relaying the news that the then United States President, John F. Kennedy had been assassinated in Dallas, Texas. This had deemed the day as indefinitely memorable.
Since then, 21 have served the SLHTA in the presidential position, the likes of whom include prominent Saint Lucian figures like the late Ione Erlinger Ford and William Bill Stewart, as well as former Prime Minister Hon. Allen Chastanet.
